Betty Francisco
CEO, Boston Impact Initiative
Betty Francisco is a seasoned business executive, board director, angel investor, and community leader. She is known as a powerful convener and changemaker, unapologetic about creating visibility for Latinx and people of color. The Boston Business Journal named Betty as one of the 2020 Power 50 – Extraordinary Year Extraordinary People, and Boston Magazine named her as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Boston in 2018. She has over 22 years of experience launching and growing startups; advising boards and executive teams on corporate governance, risk management and diversity, equity and inclusion; and negotiating and advising companies on debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
Betty is currently the CEO of Boston Impact Initiative, a social impact investment fund that invests integrated capital in regenerative local enterprises in Eastern Massachusetts that are owned and controlled by entrepreneurs of color or are serving communities of color. She is the co-founder of Amplify Latinx, a social venture that is building Latinx economic and political power by significantly increasing Latino civic engagement, economic opportunity and leadership representation in Massachusetts. Betty is also co-founder of the Investors of Color Network, a consortium of Black and Latinx accredited investors working to close the racial funding gap in startup capital.
Most recently, she was the General Counsel at Compass Working Capital where she oversaw the organization’s legal affairs, compliance, and risk management. Before that, she served as EVP, General Counsel for Sports Club/LA and Reebok Sports Club/NY, a fitness brand acquired by Equinox Fitness in 2014. Betty began her legal career as a Senior Business Law Associate at Edwards Wildman (now Locke Lord) representing start-ups, corporations, and investors in financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and general corporate matters.
She serves on the Boards of Directors of The Boston Foundation, Nellie Mae Education Foundation, Beth Israel Lahey Health, and Roxbury Community College. She is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank’s New England Community Development Advisory Council, Advisory Board Member for LISC Boston and The Capital Network. She is also a founding member of the Coalition for an Equitable Economy which is building an equitable small business ecosystem for entrepreneurs of color in Massachusetts.
She has received awards from YW Boston Academy of Women Achievers (2021); SCI Idealist Award (2021); uAspire First Ones Honoree (2020); Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Circle of Excellence Award (2020), Top Women of Law Award (2012) and In-House Leader in the Law (2010); the Hispanic National Bar Association Leadership Award (2019); GetKonnected GK100: Greater Boston’s Most Influential People of Color (2018); State Street Corporation’s Community Award (2017); and Women’s Bar Association’s Pioneering Women in the Law Award (2017). Betty obtained her JD and MBA from Northeastern University, and her BA in History from Bard College. She is fluent in Spanish and resides in Dorchester, MA with her husband Paul Francisco and their two daughters.

FitNation Ventures, CEO & Founder
FitNation Ventures is a boutique consulting practice focused on developing innovative fitness and wellness programming for youth in the greater Boston area. In 2015, FitNation launched Reimagine Play (www.reimagineplay.com), a Boston-based fitness start-up that provides fun, play-inspired fitness and obstacle training experiences for children and families, and as part of after-school programs, camps and events. Reimagine Play is developing a new obstacle training center that will offer ninja warrior-inspired obstacle courses with varying levels of difficulty, youth and adult fitness classes and event space under one roof.

Betty served as General Counsel and member of the senior executive team for Sports Club/LA and Reebok Sports Club/NY, a luxury fitness and lifestyle brand with seven clubs nationwide which was acquired by Equinox Fitness in 2015. In this role, Betty advised the CEO and Board of Directors on all major business initiatives, strategic partnerships, development, and mergers and acquisitions. She managed all major business transactions, risk management, member and tenant relationships, governance, and commercial contracts. She was also a key partner to marketing, sales, operations and human resources in the development and launch of high profile initiatives, including new sales programs and brand partnerships.
Locke Lord, Senior Business Associate
Betty began her legal career as a Senior Business Associate at Edwards Wildman Palmer (www.lockelord.com) where she developed expertise in corporate and securities matters, with a focus on venture capital financings, private placements, securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and asset dispositions. She represented both venture capital funds and domestic and foreign companies in structuring and negotiating equity and debt financings, public and private mergers, acquisitions, and other business combinations ranging from $50M to $1B in purchase price.

Betty Francisco is a recognized community leader and diversity champion. She serves on a number of non-profit and advisory boards in greater Boston with a focus on youth, education, entrepreneurship and women’s advancement. She is the co-founder of Latina Circle, a non-profit social venture that is advancing Latina leaders across industries into positions of power and influence, and which recently launched the Amplify Latinx initiative to increase Latino civic engagement and leadership representation across business, civic and government sectors. As part of its work, the Latina Circle facilitates connections between organizations seeking Latinx talent for board service and leadership positions.
Betty is a member of the Board of Directors of Beth Israel Lahey Health, the second largest health care system in Massachusetts. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, the largest philanthropy in New England dedicated exclusively to education; the Board of Directors of the Boston Foundation, one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the nation; the Board of Trustees of Roxbury Community College; the Board of Ambassadors of Eastern Bank; and the Investment Committee of Boston Impact Initiative Fund, which invests integrated capital in regenerative local enterprises. She is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank’s New England Community Development Advisory Council, an Advisory Member for the Boston Women’s Commission and Supplier Diversity Council under Mayor Martin Walsh, and Advisory Member for LISC Boston and The Capital Network.
